Subverting the idea of taxidermied animal trophies, Baseman places the moa bird on a tree as a symbol of those loved and lost. A WildGirl and black cat pay respects to this extinct creature, breathing life into a memory of something gone, but not forgotten. Baseman created this image for Memento Moa, an exhibition that explores the themes of migration, memory, and mortality.
